AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- American Homes 4 Rent (NYSE: AMH) (the "Company"), a leading provider of high quality single-family homes for rent, today announced that, on November 17, 2016, UCLA's IS Associates, Southern California's leading group of information technology executives, presented its annual Executive Leadership Award (ELA) to UCLA alumnus, Bryan Smith, Executive Vice President and President of Property Management of American Homes 4 Rent. Sponsored by the UCLA Office of Information Technology, the IS Associates' award is given to a senior general management executive who has brought information systems into the most strategic and high-level decision-making processes, as well as into widespread use throughout the organization.

"American Homes 4 Rent is capitalizing on the opportunity of disruption that is changing entire industries with the engagement of ubiquitous access and use of networked data and information," said UCLA Vice Provost Jim Davis, Office of Information Technology. "UCLA and the IS Associates are thrilled that this year's award is going to Bryan Smith, an executive leader who has embraced the role of information technology to create an entirely new model for rental property operations and who is from our own UCLA community."

American Homes 4 Rent was founded in 2011 with the purpose of institutionalizing the single-family rental industry.  To execute on that vision, Mr. Smith contributed to the development of an innovative acquisitions model, using mobile technology to achieve scale in reviewing brokered opportunities and trustee sales across more than 40 markets in 22 states.  He helped pioneer the use of directed technology solutions to remove friction from the touring and leasing process.  At each step of the property lifecycle, new tools were developed, deployed and refined to create a significant advantage over competitors while efficiently scaling up operations.  With the contribution of Mr. Smith's leadership, American Homes 4 Rent was able to rapidly acquire, renovate and lease almost 50,000 homes while simultaneously building a national management and operating platform with an enterprise value of over $10 billion and over $850 million in annualized revenues.

"There are very few firms that have so completely and so seamlessly integrated their technology platforms into their business models the way American Homes 4 Rent has," said Don Olender, executive director of IS Associates. "Bryan has demonstrated the proactive leadership necessary to drive the use of technology to meet AMH's primary business objectives, and it is truly exciting to see the combined levels of business productivity and positive customer outcomes that are possible when technology is leveraged this way."
