ZENITEL WINS COASTAL RADIO COMMUNICATION CONTRACTS IN ALGERIA AND
ROMANIA

NEW CONTRACTS WORTH EUR 3 MILLION

Brussels/Oslo, April 28, 2003 - Zenitel (Euronext: ZENT, OSE: ZENT)
has won 2 contracts to deliver Coastal Radio Communication systems in
Algeria and Romania. The first contract implies the delivery and
installation of Coastal Radio Communication and Navigation Control
equipment in Algeria, and will be completed in the first quarter of
2004. The second contract regards a Coastal Radio Communication
system for the Romanian national coast station operator Radionav, and
will be implemented during Q3 2003. The total value of the 2
contracts is EUR 3 million.

The new contracts in Algeria and Romania reconfirm Zenitel's leading
position as a supplier of radio communication equipment for coastal
stations and contribute to the expansion of its maritime activities
worldwide. Major references in this field include communication
systems for coastal stations in Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina,
Colombia, Ireland, the Netherlands Antilles, and a number of
countries in Africa. The fully in-house developed radio transmitters
for these stations are also used for ground-to-air communication
solutions in airports, e.g. the 5 largest airports of India, a
contract won last year.

Contract in Algeria
The new EUR 2.4 million contract in Algeria with the Ministry of
Posts & Telecommunications (Algiers) concerns Coastal Radio
Communication and Navigation Control equipment along the 1200 km
Algerian coastline. Under the terms of this contract, Zenitel will
deliver a MF Broadcasting System for radio NAVTEX messages. NAVTEX is
an element of GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) and
an international automated, medium-frequency (518 kHz)
direct-printing service delivering navigational and meteorological
warnings and forecasts to ships, as well as urgent marine safety
information. Zenitel will supply VHF Transmitters/Receivers to
provide voice and data links for shore-to-ship and ship-to-shore
communications based on Digital Selective Calling (DSC) technology.
The equipment will be installed in 7 ports and connected to the
nearest Control Centers.

The contract also includes HF Transmitters/Receivers to provide voice
and data links based on DSC technology, to be installed in 3 Marine
Radio Control Centers (MRCC) in Algiers, Annaba and Oran. In
addition, the Universal Automatic Identification System (UAIS) will
improve the safety of navigation by use of VHF transponders as
specified by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and by the
International Telecommunications Union (ITU). UAIS is capable of
exchanging navigation and ship data with the coastal stations and
will be installed in 4 Algerian ports. The delivery and installation
of the equipment are expected to take place during this year and Q1
2004.

Zenitel has already successfully supplied Coastal Radio Communication
solutions to Algeria in 2002.

Contract in Romania
Zenitel has won a EUR 0.5 million contract for the supply of a NAVTEX
system in Romania. The Ministry of Public Finance (Bucharest) awarded
the contract to Zenitel in the frame of the PHARE program-EuropeAid.
The equipment is destined for the national coast station operator
Radionav (Constanta) and includes the supply of MHF transmitters,
receivers, antennas and associated control and management systems.
The equipment will be used for the dissemination of radio NAVTEX
messages in the Black Sea area in a range of approximately 300
nautical miles. The delivery and installation of the equipment will
take place during the third quarter of 2003.
