WELLESLEY, Mass., Dec. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Life Financial U.S. has once again been named a "Best Place to Work" for LGBTQ equality by the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index. For the 10th year in a row, Sun Life has received a 100% score. The index is a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality.

"We want our employees to feel valued in bringing their true selves to work," said Kathy deCastro, head of Human Resources at Sun Life Financial U.S. "Sun Life has shown sincere commitment to all aspects of workplace diversity. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind, and we have a long-standing history of proudly fighting for LGBTQ equality in the workplace."

Sun Life has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights, joining 13 employer briefs that helped lead to the defeat of DOMA (Defense Of Marriage Act) in 2013 and state laws prohibiting same-sex marriage in 2015. The company also joined two briefs this year in support of including sexual orientation in federal workplace protections.

Sun Life also hosts several Diversity & Inclusion networks, including Gays, Lesbians and Others Building Equality (GLOBE), which engages in discussion, holds educational sessions on relevant issues and supports community activities. Most recently, on National Coming Out Day, October 11, GLOBE held a panel discussion featuring Sun Life employees who shared their coming out stories, provided perspectives from across the LGBTQ spectrum and talked about how to support family and friends.

GLOBE is one of several Diversity & Inclusion networks at Sun Life. Others are Black Excellence Alliance (BEA); American Asian Heritage Association (AAHA); Women's Leadership Network (WLN); and Hispanic Organization for Leaders and Achievers (HOLA).
