SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI) announced that Samsonite has selected IDT as exclusive IC provider for its first generation of products featuring wireless charging. A global leader in travel bags, luggage and accessories, Samsonite selected IDT's P9038 wireless power transmitter to enable wireless charging in two new business collections, EnerQI and Lady Tech. Samsonite plans to introduce the products in Europe in the first quarter of 2017, followed by global availability.

The IDT chips will be integrated into power banks built into the Samsonite products. The P9038 is a Qi-compliant wireless power transmitter IC available in a compact package.

"When you're on the move, whether for business or leisure, staying connected is essential, so access to power is crucial," said Gianpaolo Sala, general manager of Samsonite's Business and Accessories Division Europe. "That's why Samsonite teamed with IDT to provide this technology in our bags and luggage."

"Samsonite has built its reputation on delivering quality," Sala added, "so when we decided to pursue wireless power capabilities, IDT was the natural choice as exclusive supplier. IDT has a proven track record of success with wireless power, and we are excited to offer this practical feature in these new products."

"Wireless power is rapidly expanding into a broad range of markets beyond smartphones and their accessories," said Chris Stephens, general manager of IDT's Wireless Power Division. "While smartphones represented the first wave of adoption, IDT wireless power chips currently are embedded in wearables, furniture, remote control devices, and now Samsonite business bags.  There is real evidence that wireless power has crossed the chasm of early adoption into a mass market of applications supporting the smartphone infrastructure."

IDT's magnetic induction devices have been deployed in more than 100 million products. IDT has also introduced wireless power reference kits, providing an easy path for engineers without wireless power expertise to integrate the capabilities into designs.
