G4S International Logistics (G4Si) has signed an agreement in Shanghai, China, which establishes G4Si as an approved service provider to the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) International Board and the Bank of Communications, China.

G4Si is now authorised to deliver gold bullion to the SGE International Board Vault.  Since China is the world's second largest importer of gold bullion as well as the world's largest domestic producer, this is a key milestone in international support for the flow of physical gold. G4Si will promote deliveries of gold to the SGE International Board and service their products, encouraging acceptance of "Shanghai Gold" bullion standards in the global gold market.

The agreement was signed on centre stage at the Shanghai Stock Exchange, as part of The Right Honourable George Osborne's (Chancellor of the Exchequer), UK Trade Mission to China. The signing took place in front of over 600 invited guests.  The agreement was secured with support from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Offices (FCO) in Beijing and Shanghai.

Julian Haskard, Regional Director - Asia Pacific, G4Si said:

"G4Si is very proud to have achieved this significant milestone in its network development. We are excited about this expansion into China and the opportunity to work more closely with Chinese banks and institutions.  This is a significant development of UK and China bilateral trade. We look forward to providing an extensive service in the international and domestic precious metals and valuable goods market, connecting China, the UK and beyond.

"I'd like to thank the UK FCO teams in Beijing and Shanghai for their highly professional support.  They work tirelessly to help British businesses create value in China."
