EdR Honored with Six Innovator Awards at the 7th Annual Interface Student Housing Conference

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- EdR, (NYSE: EDR) one of the nation's largest developers, owners and managers of high quality collegiate housing communities, today announced the company received six Innovator Awards at the 2017 Interface Conference sponsored by Student Housing Business magazine. EdR was recognized for leadership and excellence in development, renovation, implementation of mixed-use, vendor/operator solutions and green and sustainable construction and development.

EdR was honored with three awards in the on-campus category and two awards in the off-campus category. The sixth was given in partnership with Core Spaces for the off-campus student housing community, Urbane, near the University of Arizona, which is owned by EdR. EdR has been honored with a total of 22 awards since the inception of the Innovator awards six years ago.

  • Best Renovation of Existing University Housing: Bowles Hall Renovation at University of California Berkeley

    Spearheaded by the Bowles Hall Foundation, EdR led the development and construction management of the extensive renovation of one of the first dormitories built on the University of California Berkeley's campus. Opened in 1928, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, and reopened to students in August of 2016.

  • Best Vendor/University Solution: Bowles Hall Renovation at University of California Berkeley with Elauwit Networks

    For the complicated and extensive renovation for Bowles Hall at University of California Berkeley, EdR brought Elauwit into the fold from the start of the project to ensure top-quality and future-proof technology solutions for students. Elauwit and EdR worked hand-in-hand with the historic renovation experts, the University of California Berkeley, architects and project managers in order to complete infrastructure improvements that included fiber and cable extended throughout the property.

  • Best Implementation of Mixed-Use or Live-Learn: University of Kentucky Holmes and Boyd Halls

    EdR helped to advance University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto's initiative to "deliver the Kentucky Promise" by revitalizing the campus with mixed-use, living-learning facilities and more than 1,110 news beds with Boyd and Holmes Halls. Homes Hall serves as the home of the Creative Arts Living Residential College with 7,800 square feet of space dedicated for collaboration and performance space. Boyd Hall features a Steak 'n Shake, as well as more living-learning spaces, collaboration and social spaces offering views of downtown Lexington and the north part of campus.

  • Best Use of Green & Sustainable Construction/Development: UCONN and EdR: The Oaks on the Square at Storrs Center

    Creating a town center for a state's flagship university was an ambitious task, and one that has become a national model for college town center development. EdR worked alongside several partners and the town of Storrs, Conn., to create a special design district and sustainability guidelines. The project's sustainable features included: location close to existing development and utilities, permeable pavers and other materials, and native species and limited grass for planning. There is also easy access to public transportation within the town of Storrs and the entire region.

  • Best New Development Less than 400 beds: Urbane at University of Arizona (in partnership with Core Spaces)

    Pedestrian to the University of Arizona in Tucson, Urbane is a 311-unit student housing community offering a range of studio to five-bedroom apartments, and includes a fitness center, outdoor terrace with rooftop sundeck and pool, business center and study areas. EdR acquired Urbane from Core in September 2016.
