SAN RAMON, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Wireless Corporation (Nasdaq: USWC, Frankfurt: USP), a leading provider of wireless location information and services, today announced the formation of Compass Services(TM), an advanced transportation division of U.S. Wireless, to market transportation management services based on the U.S. Wireless location network. U.S. Wireless has already received two contracts to supply location-enhanced traveler and transportation information in Maryland and Virginia.

The Company named Richard Mudge, PhD, President, and Howard Blank, PhD, Vice President - Technology, of Reston, Virginia-based Compass Services.

Compass Services will provide transportation management services to public and private transportation companies, enabling live traffic monitoring for expressways and arterials, location-enhanced traveler updates and alerts, and meaningful real-time best route advice. Compass Services will also explore opportunities to use U.S. Wireless' network to provide location information for asset tracking and telematics applications.

``The U.S. Wireless location network revolutionizes traffic monitoring by providing cost-effective real-time estimates of traffic speed and congestion, without expensive in-road sensors, aircraft or video cameras,'' said Dr. Oliver Hilsenrath, U.S. Wireless Chairman and CEO. ``The formation of our Compass Services division will enable us to build on the contracts we've already received, to demonstrate to transportation organizations everywhere, the effectiveness of our proprietary technology in solving traffic, congestion and asset location challenges.''

``Traffic is growing twenty times faster than current abilities to add roadway capacity,'' said Dick Mudge, President of Compass Services. ``Reliable information on traffic and individual vehicle location is needed to help drivers and industry planners make better use of our existing transport network. The U.S. Wireless location determination network is ideally suited to meet this demand for accurate real-time traffic and location information. It offers a rich information package, including travel times, vehicle routing and incident notification.''

Mudge, 54, has more than 25 years of transportation industry experience. He was a co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Apogee Research transportation consultants. Twice named to the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private firms, Apogee later merged with Hagler Bailly, where Mudge then served as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the firm's transportation practice.
