LERNOUT & HAUSPIE BROADENS REALSPEAK LANGUAGE SUPPORT, ANNOUNCES NEW TELEPHONY CONTRACTS AT CT EXPO
New Customers, Language Support and Product Demonstrations Underscore Wide Range of Devices Speech-Enabled with L&H Technology, Continuing Popularity of L&H's Engines Among Developers
LOS ANGELES, CA - March 7, 2000 - Lernout & Hauspie (NASDAQ: LHSP; EASDAQ: LHSP) (L&H™) today announced the availability of L&H™ RealSpeak™, natural sounding text-to-speech (TTS) in German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Korean, Dutch and UK English languages and that it has signed several new telecommunications industry customers for its speech and language technologies. The new contracts gave L&H a total of more than 40 new telephony-based contracts for the fourth quarter of 1999 and further broadens the variety of platforms being speech-enabled with its technology. The company made the announcements in its booth #1500 while at the CT Expo trade show held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from March 7-9.
L&H announced that Parigon Communications Inc., a division of Authentix, Everypath and Intersis are a few of the companies that have licensed L&H speech technologies to voice-enable their products to provide users access to information via a variety of devices, including telephones and the Internet. Internet and portal applications demonstrate a growing demand for L&H RealSpeak beyond traditional telecom applications and are expanding the opportunity for the technology. Parigon will employ L&H RealSpeak, ASR1500, and its large vocabulary recognizer (LVR) for use with SimplySay™ software. Everypath will license L&H RealSpeak, TTS3000, ASR1500 and its LVR to speech enable Everypath software to make the content from any web site available on ordinary voice telephones, as well as small format and wireless devices such as Palm VIIs, PDAs, 2-way pagers and "Smart" phones. Intersis VoiXX 2.5, a unified messaging application for Microsoft Exchange, utilizes L&H RealSpeak and ASR 1600 to enable users to navigate their messages and contacts by voice and have e-mail and contact information read to them over the phone.
L&H will also be showcasing text-to-speech solutions from the recently acquired Elan Informatique. Elan's mid-level TTS engine complements L&H's current family of award-winning TTS engines that includes L&H RealSpeak, a high-end human sounding synthesized voice and L&H TTS 3000, a traditional TTS engine.
