Japan to build coal power plant in Sri Lanka - Mr Ganegala

Mr WP Ganegala, Ceylon Electricity Board chairman, said that Sri Lanka’s latest coal power plant will be set up in the Southern Province with Japanese assistance. The plant, expected to generate 500MW of power, would cost USD 500 million.

Mr Ganegala said that a location had not yet been selected and surveys were underway. He said that work on the project was expected to begin by the end of this year and it would be completed in one and half years.

He said that Japan had made the offer when President Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa visited that country in March.

Meanwhile, this project comes as controversy rages over India’s proposed coal-power project in Sampur while the second phase of the crisis-ridden Norochcholai coal power project is due to be completed later this year..

According to the audited financial statements report for the quarter 1/2013 of Energy Earth Public Company Limited (“the Company”) and subsidiary ended on 31 May 2013, the Company would like to explain the reasons that caused its operation results to increase more than 20% as follows:

2. The Company generated gross margin of 615.63 million baht for the 1st quarter of year 2013, increased 193.13 million baht from the same quarter of the previous year, representing an increase rate of 45.71 % as a result of number 1

3. The company generated net profit of 368.33 million baht for the 1st quarter of year 2013, increased 121.94 million baht from the same quarter of the previous year, representing an increase rate of 49.49% as a result of number 1 and 2 above..

Die Geschichte der Kohle ist vor allem eine Geschichte der Energieerzeugung. Knapp drei Viertel des weltweiten Fördervolumens werden hierfür genutzt, rund 23 Prozent des Volumens teilen sich zu fast gleichen Teilen die Stahl- und Zementproduktion. Obwohl zum Ausbau regenerativer Energien große Anstrengungen unternommen werden, ist Kohle genauso wie Öl und Gas immer noch ein unverzichtbarer Primärenergieträger. Das wird auch noch lange Zeit so bleiben. Die regenerativen Energien sind weit davon entfernt, den Bedarf von Mensch und Industrie allein zu sichern. Ihr Anteil am Strommix wird wachsen, doch Kohle wird noch viele Jahrzehnte unverzichtbar bleiben. Mehr noch: Die Internationale Energieagentur der OECD erwartet, dass Kohle dem Öl im Jahr 2017 den Rang als wichtigste Energiequelle der Menschheit abläuft..

Wegen schwächerer Kohlepreise bricht der Gewinn in Q2 leicht ein. Die Börse hatte das bereits vorweggenommen, nach den Zahlen gings erst einmal aufwärts im Heimatmarkt. Die Minenoperationen und Geschäfte im Handel und der neuen Energiesparte laufen nach Plan. Die Gesellschaft sieht sich auf Kurs, die Jahrespläne zu erreichen.
